Gospel Blues singer Mary Ryan, Roots Blues singer & guitarist Mark Braidner & Ragtime pianist Simon Templeton have just recorded their first album 'Trimmed & Burning', which is an exciting mixture of Gospel blues, 'old time' songs and Vaudeville from the 1920's onwards. The album includes classic blues of Memphis Minnie, ragtime songs of Blind Willie McTell & gospel blues of Blind Willie Johnson, including 'God Moves On The Water', Johnson's version of the story of the sinking of The Titanic. 'Trimmed & Burning' was produced by Ciaran Cassidy and will be launched in Belfast shortly.
Mark Braidner plays blues guitar like he has walked straight out of the Mississippi Delta. Simon Templeton has a unique stride piano style & Mary is a gifted interpreter of blues ballads whose soulfull voice is rooted in the traditional. The trio perform a gloriously earthy mix of Delta & Gospel ballads by artists such as Leadbelly, Bessie Smith, Robert Johnson & Mississippi Fred McDowell. Their repetoire also includes Irish & Scottish folk songs which changed to Ragtime, Vaudeville & Gospel Blues.
